Al Farsh/Wadi Araba Viewpoint

The Farsh viewpoint overlooking Wadi Araba is renowned as one of Petra's most stunning vantage points. It offers panoramic views of Wadi Araba, including Bir Mathkur, Qasr Umm Ratam, and the ancient Nabataean/Roman gardens. To the south, it overlooks Mount Haroun, Al-Bara, and the Taybeh Road.
The viewpoint provides a perfect spot to rest and take in the breathtaking scenery before returning via the same trail. From this distinctive peak, you can also see ancient Nabataean agricultural terraces that adorn the mountainside, revealing the region's agricultural and pastoral history. The site's graffiti and rock art depict ibexes, Thamudic inscriptions, hunting scenes, early Islamic Kufic inscriptions, and camels, highlighting the area's importance across Nabataean, Roman, and Islamic periods. These drawings and inscriptions offer insights into how ancient pastoral-nomads experienced their desert environment, especially the animals they herded, hunted, and relied upon for survival.
The Farsh viewpoint is a key attraction for tourism in Petra, offering a unique experience that combines natural beauty with cultural heritage. Its stunning vistas provide an excellent opportunity for photographers and nature enthusiasts to enjoy breathtaking scenes and explore the rich history of the region.
